Study on the State of the Garment Industry

The research team of NRCC carried out the "Study on the State of the Garment Industry" from October 13 to December 22, 2023.

This study aims to investigate the challenges, prospects, and solutions in the garment industry for small and medium-sized businesses as well as self-employed entrepreneurs. The research methodology employed for this study is a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative research included 103 producers from Ulaanbaatar city, Darkhan-Uul, Orkhon, Dornod, and Zavkhan aimag, and 402 consumers from UB city and the 21 aimag. Moreover, more than 30 producers, 10 policymakers, implementers, and researchers took part in qualitative research.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, a conference was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry (MOFA) in collaboration with the Professional Federation of the Garment Sector (PFGS). The conference was attended by 30-40 producers from the Garment Industry along with the Small and Medium Enterprises department of MOFA. The main topic of discussion was the research results. During the conference, a working group was formed to implement the research recommendations.

The study was commissioned by the Development Solutions Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), which implements the "Business Excellence for Sustainability and Transparency" (BEST) program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
