Research on Military Labor in Mongolia

The research team of the NRCC company with support from the International Labor Organization, carried out the "Research on military labor in Mongolia" between July 2023 and March 2024. This study is an assessment report on whether military labor in Mongolia complies with Conventions 29 and 105 of the International Labor Organization.

ILO Convention No. 29 of 1930 on Forced Labor allows conscripts to perform only military work and services, and Convention No. 105 on the Abolition of Forced Labor of 1957 stipulates the conditions of forced labor by the state, as well as the prohibition of the use of forced labor in the private sector. This includes the participation of conscripts in economic development.

This study was conducted using a qualitative research method and included conscripts, demobilized soldiers, and armed forces officers and captains.

In a discussion organized by the International Labor Organization on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, the "Conditions of Prisoners' Labor in Mongolia" conducted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the "Child Labor Survey in Mongolia" conducted by the NSC and the NRCC company’s "Research on military labor in Mongolia" was presented.
